Cada año aparecen miles de virus, sin embargo tambien cada año tambien aparecen cientos de virus imaginarios que son descritos en correos que siempre incluyen una frase que dice:

  "por favor envien este mensaje a todos sus conocidos"    

Estos mensajes, engaños o "Hoax" tienen como unico proposito generar cadenas de correo y generar panico, es importante no caer en el juego. Pues como en el cuento del niño que gritaba, "ahi viene el lobo" cuando hay un virus real, este puede pasar desapercibido. En ocacioes estas cadenas son creaas con el objetivo de recolectar direcciones de correo elecronico, pues usualente al reenviarse una y otra ves, los correos pueden conservar las direcciones de todas las personas que los han enviado. Estas direcciones pueden usarse para Spam (anuncios no solicitados) o por progamadores de virus para realizar aaques.

La mayoria de estos mensajes son faciles de identificar ya que tienen un tono alarmista y dicen que el VIRUS destruira su computadora en cuanto el mensaje es leido. Esto ultimo es muy importante, apesar de que ya existen algunos virus como bubbleboy que pueden infectar con solo leer el correo, el 99.99% de todos los virus, caballos de troya y gusanos, solo pueden actuar si se activa el ejecutable, que es usualmente un archivo adjunto en el correo.

Actualmente no se pueden infectar archivos de imagen o de texto. La gran mayoria de los virus son virus de macro que pueden venir en los archivos de Word. La regla es que si recibe un archivo .COM .EXE .DOC .HLP y no sabe que contiene o quien lo envio, no lo habra a menos que tenga un buen antivirus que examine primero el archivo.

Muchos de los hoax o engaños, insisten en que AOL, IBM o Microsoft o alguna otra autoridad ha lanzado el aviso. Pero es muy dificil que esas organizacioes hagan notificaciones de correo, si tiene dudas, es mejor buscar en la pagina, antes que enviar los correos.

Tambien muchos de estos engaños hacen declaraciones que son tecnicamente imposibles, como: Destruir la tarjeta de audio, formatear el teclado,borrar los disquettes que esten cerca de la computadora, esconderse en la memoria de la computadora o destruir el disco duro. Un virus puede borrar el disco duro e incluso formatearlo, pero NO destruirlo.

Asi que si recibe algun mensaje con estos temas, por favor, leanlos, rianse un poco, borrenlos, y no los envien... por lo menos no a sus amigos....
